In The Spotlight: Beat Balding, Try On a Wig or Two
The majority of us never imagined the incredible Belinda Dreskell, my life-long soul mate, could cover her head with lace front wigs. Her voluminous hair styles flowed in sync with her personality. Get this. The one and only will always be celebrated because of her trademark toss ‘n turn. Only a handful of souls know she compensates for medical hair loss with wigs. They work well.
When we were young girls in high school, we always knocked ‘em dead. But in college her alopecia started acting up and she went bald. I suggested a few lace wigs. Even so it didn’t matter much. The incredible woman took the time and demonstrated her shaved head.
Appearing at our alma mater’s homecoming, we taunted the players until a guy on other team accidentally slapped the ball (or whatever they play with) into the bleachers. She tried to get it and her hand-knitted “head sweater” (her idea) flew right off, revealing her thinning hair. Like nothing happened, she hurled the thing with a tremendous heave right back at him. She’s that kind of girl.
But, who can be invincible at all times? Months later she invited me over for a cookie baking marathon, the day she grabbed my arm and confided that she prefers to make do with a shorn head out of anger. She would never look at women’s medical wigs, even if she wanted one. At that disclosure, the punk turned flush red and begged that I shouldn’t concern myself with it. I had to oblige.
We got so worried about her. Shortly after, I IM’d with her about taking care of this wig problem. Finally the two of us came to an agreement: we were going wig shopping! So I’m getting one too!
She and I were amazed by the fashionable styles. She never imagined that women’s medical wigs were very appealing for so many women. These women’s wigs were marvelous. As for me, pieced together a comprehensively creative ensemble to match my synthetic wig. We stand together, but you knew that already. Recently she gave me a photo of us in our wigs and thanked me for invisible lace front wig, and explained it rekindles a feminine mystique for many occasions. It’s a relief to watch her rediscover the sassy, feminine girl I remember. I love her so much!
